Installing a CD changer, which allows you to listen to many CDs without having to constantly switch them in and out, is an exciting addition to your SUV. SUVs give you a wider variety of possible installation options, due to the increased interior space, especially in larger models.
1 Decide which type of changer you want to install. While using an add-on unit that secures to the floor or underneath a seat is the most popular way to go, some people may prefer a more advanced installation that integrates with or replaces the existing audio system in the dashboard, which will require advanced installation skills.
2 Choose the location for the CD changer. The most common choice is underneath the seat, but with an SUV you may be able to find room underneath the dashboard or on the center console, depending upon the size of the changer.
3 Check the factory-installed or existing car audio system to see how you will hook up your CD changer. Older SUVs may have radios that do not have output jacks that allow for additional equipment, so you may have to use a variety of adapters, modulators or interfaces to make everything work together. The retail outlet from which you purchase your CD changer should have access to a database that will show exactly what you need for your specific SUV.
4 Decide upon your method of installation, whether it be the use of mounting brackets and hardware for a more stable application or the use of Velcro straps to secure your CD changer underneath the seat. Velcro straps are an effective solution if you are leasing your vehicle and don't want to drill any holes in the interior of the car.
5 Route the cabling between the CD changer and the existing audio system by prying up the carpeting up with a flathead screwdriver or by removing the running boards underneath the doors and then dressing the cable up underneath the dashboard. You can also use Velcro straps to secure the cabling to the carpet if you are hesitant about running it underneath.
Another easy way is to install a digital music cd changer, just connect the cable to the cd changer port and then you can control it by stereo panel directly and enjoy your digital music in your car. |
